Dr Ben Sykes recommends PROTEK GI and here’s why!
Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) is a subject that Dr Ben Sykes (BSc BVMS MS MBA DipACVIM PhD FHEA) has spent a lot of his time researching and managing as a clinician. Dr Ben Sykes is a leading equine veterinarian who is now changing the way we think, talk about, treat, prevent, and manage EGUS in our horses.
Dr Sykes explains, “In addition to my interest and experience in the management of high-performance equine athletes, I have a strong interest in clinical research. My research has focused on gastrointestinal diseases of the horse, particularly EGUS”.
To properly understand EGUS, we first need to clarify the terminology. The term “EGUS” has been around for the past 20 years, but in more recent times, the terminology has changed significantly.
EGUS is an over-arching umbrella term that simply describes ulcerative, erosive, and hyperkeratotic diseases of the stomach. We now know there are very distinct differences between diseases in the upper squamous mucosa versus the lower glandular mucosa of the horse’s stomach. So, EGUS is now divided into Equine Squamous Gastric Disease (ESGD) and Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD).
ESGD and EGGD are COMPLETELY different in terms of causes, prevalence, risk factors, treatment, management, and prevention. You CANNOT extrapolate one from the other! Some of Dr Ben Sykes’ research has also focused on finding effective adjunctive therapies for EGUS, which is what led him to Kelato’s PROTEK GI.
So, why does Dr Ben Sykes trust and recommend PROTEK GI?
Ben has pioneered research on EGUS with a focus on EGGD, both in Australia and internationally. Whilst searching for a high-quality product he could use and recommend, Ben found Kelato’s PROTEK GI aligned with the findings of his research.
PROTEK GI is Kelato’s ultimate supplement targeting both foregut and hindgut health. PROTEK GI is designed to support horses with gastrointestinal disturbances or gastric stress.
PROTEK GI is unique as it provides a combination of antacids and “coating agents” pectin and lecithin, which provide an enhanced “alkaline slime” barrier for the squamous mucosa and supplement the natural defense mechanisms of the glandular mucosa.
For hindgut health, PROTEK GI contains a prebiotic and live yeast probiotic (Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain I-1077) that work together to maintain a healthy hindgut environment, stimulate the growth of beneficial microbes and assists feed conversion efficiency.
Not only is PROTEK GI backed by independent research, including his own, but it has also scientifically proven high-quality ingredients that are all clearly listed on the label, is Australian owned and is manufactured in the USA to GMP standards and conforms to ISO quality standards.
Ben says, “I use PROTEK GI in my own horses and I can’t recommend it highly enough to all of my clients. We use PROTEK GI for the long-term management of EGUS.”
