I've now used this product on two completely different types of horses after diagnosing and treating ulcers then transitioning to this product. Both horses continue to maintain on Protek GI and have not had any ulcer flair ups when I use this product regularly.
My horse had ulcers for 2 months, treated with 69 days of ulcer guard. I put him on ProtekGI after, he hasn’t had a recurrence in a year and he has gained weight! I strongly recommend this product.
My 4 year old gelding was scoped and confirmed to have pyloric ulcers. He is very ulcer prone. I did 2 months of Misoprostol and then the last week of Treatment I added Protek GI. So Far he has been on it for 2 weeks and I show no signs of ulcers coming back as his behavior was horrible. He now is much more relaxed and seems to be back to himself. I will update this review when I hit 90 days. I know not a lot of people do that but I will or write a new one referring to this one. I so far love this stuff and Customer services is awesome. They answered all my questions and never pushed me or gave false promises. I am glad that so far all seems good. He is happy again and back to playing. I even get my Nickers when he sees me now.
Everything I have researched and learned about this product is that it is going to be the best possible thing out there for my horse's pyloric ulcer prevention program, and so far, it is working. However, as he is an easy keeper and doesn't need much hard feed, it is difficult to mix a cup or more worth of powdered supplement with his hard feed and get him to eat it. He has started refusing his feed altogether because he doesn't like the excessive amount of powder, not even if we wet it down. I am going to try a different feed blend to see if we can keep him eating the ProtekGI powder, but I think it is going to cost me even more money to change his feed. On top of the very high cost of this supplement, I don't know if this feed change will be sustainable, and we may have to quit the supplement altogether and just forego the performance dreams we had, as I can't afford frequent ulcer scoping and treatment, which is just as expensive as this supplement is becoming. Wish there was a more affordable answer. Also wish this supplement could be provided in a palatable pellet form.
